A few years ago my husband and I purchased a charming ninety-year-old twin that had for the most part been lovingly kept in good condition by the previous family who owned it. However, during the home inspection our inspector noticed that the wooden basement steps were very rickety and being propped up in the back by miscellaneous pieces of wood. After moving in I became increasingly nervous about using the steps, which seemed to rock and sway underfoot each time someone went up and down. Jack came in, and in one day completely demolished the old stairwell and built a beautiful, sturdy, safe set of new stairs. He also removed all the old debris without leaving a trace, nick, or scratch behind. Now I don't have any hesitation about fetching things up and down from our basement — since our stairs are rock solid and completely safe!
